It's that time of year when weddings and backyard BBQs are common. While these are great times to interact with family and friends, they are also events that tend to be surrounded by food. For someone on a diet this can be a time of anxiety. Often it can be a time to go "off the diet" for just a "moment." However, that moment leaves some saying well if I blew it today, I'll wait to Monday to restart. I don't know how many times I have done that, but not this time. I have found that positive thinking, and picturing myself the way I want to be after losing the weight helps me to not overeat at these events.
Some of my positive thoughts involve the clothes I want to wear. Stuff that I can't fit into now or styles I like but don't' think would look good on me. I picture myself wearing these and I know I can't get there if I blow it with a weekend of overeating. I think about going to the doctor and getting those test results back that show I have been working on everything. I picture getting on that scale and seeing the numbers go down.
Being on a diet doesn't mean that you give up going to events that are surrounded by food, instead it means going to the event and enjoying the people more than the food. Part of dieting is to teach us how to take in normal calories during a day so that when we go to a BBQ we can sample items without getting 2 or 3 platefuls of food. You can't avoid events for the rest of your life so instead focus on how to make the events work for you. Eat to live not live to eat!!
